Coffee - Is it a Drug?

by Sam Shwartz

Coffee is an almost everyday staple for many people. Especially those who work tedious hours, have a lot going on or those

who could just use the pick me up. Fundamentally, this refers to almost everyone. That ideal cup of coffee can be warm,

comforting and completely rejuvenating. But how good is it for your wellbeing?

Caffeine is a mild drug and as such, has certain unfavourable effects. Sure it gives you energy and wakes you up, but excessive

use could be unexpectedly damaging to you health. Meaning it could be worth it to consider switching to decaf coffee.

Decaf coffee doesn't give you the jittery effect that you from time to time feel after consuming too much caffeinated coffee.

This phenomenon can also turn into escalated nervousness, sending your body into run or fight mode. This is

particularly difficult when you have a lot happening at once and at the same time you may already be anxious or nervous about something.

Like with any good alternative to coffee like decaf coffee, you will not have any of that. You also won't have to suffer from the inevitable crash that some feel

when the caffeine from the coffee fades away.

Decaf coffee also won't have you subjected to sleeplessness. Often those that drink large quantities of coffee

during the day have a difficult time getting to sleep at night because they've still got some residual caffeine in their

bodies. With lives as busy as must of ours are, it's important to get the necessary measure of sleep for right

functioning during the day.

A different reason decaf coffee is better for you is really because regular coffee can be habit

forming. Caffeine does have a habit-forming quality to it and this can prove to be tricky to handle if you end up

desiring to cut down your coffee drinking.

For all of the reasons noted above, decaf coffee is by all means better for you than regular coffee.
